OT: Check this motor out
I line bored this crankcase yesterday. 1928 Kermath boat motor. The crankcase is separate from the cylinders. The cylinders are one piece and bolt to the top of the case, then the head. Four valves per cylinder. 150HP.

Re: OT: Check this motor out
Kermath was a very popular marine engine in the 30-40-50's until high speed and V8 auto conversions came out. I rode and drove many boats on the grreat lakes with Kermath power. You could find parts everywhere and folks knew how to work on them in those days. Noce work. Hope you have a good boat to put it in.

Nice job, James!
Amazing how some of the engine construction was back then. Ever seen bolt-on jugs with integral cyl head (cast into the jug, non-removeable) every engine builder had to arrive at the same place and the many pathways taken to get there always fascinated me

Fascinating motor. I would also like to see the boat that the motor goes into.

Very Nice! As you go back in time, you find the most fascinating names and designs,I once worked on a 1927 Chris Craft, 27' Triple Cockpit runabout. Originally it had a Scipps-Howard V8. We replaced the S-H with a large (158 Hp IIRC) Hercules I 6. One of the most interesting was the old Fay-Bowen with their one lung Palmer,( again IIRC) They were about thirty Ft long and maybe 3 ft wide at the broadest and a slow displacement hull. They cruised at barely walking speed. Elegant old boat!

Re: OT: Check this motor out
Nice looking engine. In the last picture there are two large mounting holes at the end of the block. Are they for mounting ancillaries?
James, Will you be putting the engine together? |
