Common in the era would be long shackles, but I’m told those can adversely affect the handling. A dropped axle is a popular way today, but frequently will have 3- or more inches of drop.

You might look into a reversed-eye main leaf for your front spring pack.

I wonder how many years of driving "Merlot" it is going to be before I start throwing firewood in the back to haul it home from the bush. I'm now in the second summer season of driving him after a ten year resto, and nothing gets put in the box without a rubber mat going in first. Still I only haul some luggage for a weekend and a couple of bag chairs, and nothing is close enough to the front panel or the sides to touch them. Still having fun driving though, rain or shine, but no snow! Byron, in Ontario.

I agree; reversed eye mainleaf, slider buttons between the leaves, and leave out the 2 shortest spring leaves. This should really improve the ride also. JMO

I am going to drive my 35 PU pretty often now that it is "finished" and just have fun with it.

Can't say that mine is a daily driver, but ( my Dodge truck is for tow & my chevy. race car is for go & my '41 ford is for show ) the wife's chrysler 300 is our daily driver.

With modern cars being able go and stop in half the time of our early Fords, it is a hassle to be in everyday traffic but it is an interesting topic to discuss - BTT.

Still driving mine daily [unless raining] been a few years now. Tony I have no problems keeping up with modern traffic, usually passing most here.. Braking, a big set of Lincoln drums and a power booster stops pretty damn quick.
Biggest problem I have now is Im just not getting "Henry" hot enough in winter, looked at the breather last oil change, rusty and crap inside also more evidence of sludge building up in the bottom of the pan..
