Default Does an alternator need oiled?

I’m greasing the car, and Les Andrews’ book indicates that a generator should be oiled. The generator on my car was replaced with an alternator by the previous owner.

Does an alternator need to be oiled?

Good question. My alternator does not have any oiling points and none of of the several cars that I have owned in the last 40+ years with an alternator have ever needed oiling, so I would say no. I guess you should look at it to make sure, though.

I think alternators have sealed bearings so none is needed.

The bearings generally outlast the brushes and diodes.
