Inside Door Handle Spring '41
After careful study, I concluded that the only way to replace the broken door handle spring was to remove the brace by bending the tabs that hold it to the triangular mounting plate. Of course the critical tab (the one that catches the spring) broke off.
The piece is more like pot metal than steel; pretty sure it can not be repaired by welding. I can not find the inside door handle mechanism on Ebay or any of the reproduction parts sites. First; Is there a source for the inside door handle mechanism. Left/drivers door on a business coupe (narrow door) versus Sedan Coupe (wide door). Second; is there any way in H*** to replace that spring without taking the mechanism apart? Make my day and say "no". |

Warm up the tab first. Be gentle. Then weld it when it breaks.

It is weldable if necessary but there are mechanisms available that can be used by swapping the pull rod to fit the application.
Such as this.--------- https://www.ebay.com/itm/41-42-46-47...VaoHwu&vxp=mtr

If you grind the tabs off, those will come apart and go together easily; then tack weld the stubs of the tabs at assembly.

Re: Inside Door Handle Spring '41
I did the '40 coupe exterior door handle by bending the tabs and taking the mechanism apart. Tough job, but it came out ok. Good idea, welding the tabs, a lot easier than trying to bend them back again.

Re: Inside Door Handle Spring '41
My eBay skills are better than my welding skills, and I found one for the wide door '41 - '48, for which I can swap the pull rod to match my narrow door. Then I will try to weld the original and, if successful, give it to the next person who shows up on this board with a broken left front door handle spring.
