Front tube shocks for 41
I see in the catalogs front tube shock kits for 35-40 and 42-28. What is different about 41? Pictures of 41 with tube shocks?

Re: Front tube shocks for 41
Only thing I can figure when they skip '41's is there are small differences and it isn't an "exact" fit. You see it in a lot of adds.

Re: Front tube shocks for 41
ForDor you may be correct. Someone online here I would suspect would know why.

Re: Front tube shocks for 41
Could it be for lack of an attachment point for the bottom of the shock?
Does the sway bar attachment point on the '41 interfere with the mounting point? Just a thought. |

The 1941 commercial pickup was still basically the same as the 1940 but that was the last use of that style frame. |

Re: Front tube shocks for 41
Oldschool, Please post the brand and part numbers for those shocks, if it's not to bothersome. I think 1940 is the same. Thanks.

Re: Front tube shocks for 41
Assume you are referring to the brackets, as you can read the shock number off the shock in the photo.

Re: Front tube shocks for 41
My setup looks like what oldskool has. I made my own brackets. Actually I think I used oldskool's pics to design mine. The hard part is the fact that lower mount is a taper fit.

Re: Front tube shocks for 41
I made my own upper bracket and put it on more of a angle to get the shock straighter and drilled the taper out of lower mount measured up the travel of the shock and found one at NAPA words good rides nice

Re: Front tube shocks for 41
I noticed in your picture that there are two mounting holes. I tried a set-up like that but the bolt holes developed cracks outward from the frame holes. I welded a plate over the cracks and reverted back to stock shocks. Believe because there were two bolts in line, the shock action tended to twist the mount.

Re: Front tube shocks for 41
oldskool: Thanks for going under the car for the numbers.
fordor41: Those cracks seem odd. Haven't had any cracks during the 63 years those brackets have been on the car. Thank goodness. Last edited by 19Fordy; 06-07-2016 at 09:43 AM. |

Re: Front tube shocks for 41
I took a look at your pic again and I see the shocks attach to the original dogleg hole. Mine attached to the axle and then tried to the shackle. Yours is more vertical than mine. That may be why my frame cracked.

The last 3 photos show the shocks that I saved which were on the car when I bought it in 1963. I doubt if the numbers are still valid but you never know. The closed and extended length measurements may help.[/B] Last edited by 19Fordy; 06-08-2016 at 10:00 AM. |

Re: Front tube shocks for 41
Jim Gordon at Specialty Ford Parts has those tapered lower shock mount studs for mounting tube shocks where the original lever actions were.
