Default 1957 Ford Brake flex hose

Our restored 1957 Ford Skyliner had an on frame restoration by its previous owner. No worries of safety problems I though until I looked at the rear brake flex hose. It was about to blow out. Our cars have three such hoses and if one blows, the hydraulic brakes are gone. Or the flex lines also grow shut and they will not let the brake fluid while under pressure return to the master cylinder, resulting in over heated brakes and possibly a wheel fire. Do your family a favor and visually inspect your aging brake flex hoses. A photo of our beautiful Skyliner, and also a photo of the rotten rear brake flex hose are attached.

I find it funny [not ha ha] people will spend time and money on the cosmetic part of a restoration yet neglect the basic safety and relatively inexpensive parts.that is the first thing I do when I buy a used vehicle is change all the brake parts lines flex hoses so on.it can be time consuming but I know when I want and need to stop I should be able to.

Many aftermarket rubber parts like brake hoses, motor mounts and suspension parts are now manufactured off shore and the rubber is sub-grade.Make it a practice to check these more often,I bought air vent rubbers from Dennis Carpenter for my '54 they rotted and fell apart in six months, one of the motor mounts has settled and the stud is spinning in the mount they are ANCHOR Brand.

That is an OG brake hose by the look of it. I did the one in my '59, got it at Rock Auto, brand name and all but definitely made in China.

Huh, when I inherited a 57 truck the front passenger brake hose had duct tape on it. Needless to say it was replaced.

The new hoses didnt have the same long offset as the originals. But that was too be expected.

Here is another example of Chinese parts and how they fit regarding brake hoses: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/t...issues.943821/

I'm going through my '59 right now, from back to front and nothing left on the table. It's a habit I got into years ago. Anything and everything that can be replaced will be replaced, saves headaches later on.
