Default 40 pickup V/8 pan

Oil leaking out the vent hole in the right front of pan. Is that vent hole necessary? Can the pan gasket be changed without pulling the engine. Thanks in advance for any information from the knowledgeable people on this forum. Nebrfox

Force the base deplete fitting and check whether there's any water, or smooth oil. Weight test your LU. Get new washers for the attachments. When you tilt the engine up, lube will spill out through the shifter seal if it's awful. Weight test will tell the story.

If you block the vent hole the pressure will go out somewhere else like the rear main or other gaskets. You might get away with it if you add a PCV system. You should post your question on the main forum, this one is for questions to the editors. See https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=4
