Default 1934 Ford Ignition switch key and door key

Was the Ignition switch key and the door lock key was the same? Also how do you rekey the Ignition switch, do not have a key.

Originally they were the same key code and therefore the same key worked for both. In order to re-key the ignition/steering lock cylinder, it will have to be removed and sent to someone with the skills to make the change such as 32phil on this site. Better yet, send him the door lock cylinder and key as well. For sure send him both if you have no working keys for either lock.

There are several posting on this site about how to remove a ignition lock cylinder and the door cylinder. The lock cylinders have key codes stamped on their bodies.

Thanks for all the helpful information. I will keep this handy. My grandad was a mechanic for many years in the 40's and 50's and at home also. He collected a large amount of keys over the years from old Ford's. We found them in his shop and one worked like a charm. This was why he saved them. Thanks again to everyone.
