Old TV Show with 1932 Ford Hot Rods
Hello 'Barners,
A buddy sent this link to me....thought I would share it. Some of you might remember the 50's TV show...."The Life of Riley." This particular show features his son (Junior) building a '32 Ford hot rod. Captures the times of the 50's in Los Angeles. https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...JhDuiOZ7w&NR=1 Enjoy, Pat |

Re: Old TV Show with 1932 Ford Hot Rods
Pat, Brings back some great 50's memories. Thanks for posting.
By the way, in '56 I had a '32 3-window coupe that I drove to high school. I still have the grill shell which I am planning to use in my current '32 5-window build. Last edited by Doug; 07-16-2012 at 07:02 PM. |

Re: Old TV Show with 1932 Ford Hot Rods
Thanks Pat/Ohio,
The father in this TV show was well known actor at the time, Willaim Bendix. He played Babe Ruth in the "Babe Ruth Story" movie. |

That was a great show! Loved Chester A. Riley and the stuff he'd get himself into.

Re: Old TV Show with 1932 Ford Hot Rods
This was very cool . Thanks for posting . I love the old movies ! It was fun to watch and I like how Hollywood just changed cars/garages etc and wrapped it all into one . I saw 2 garages ,2 different 32's in the garage and the car he bought back and drove in the driveway was not a 32 at all . Pretty funny . None of that takes away from the show , it is still fun to watch and I love it .
Thanks again , Mike |

Re: Old TV Show with 1932 Ford Hot Rods
I would have only been 10 years old when this was first shown but some of the stuff I remember about the series shows I was destined to be a car guy, namely Ford car guy. In this episode Riley and Gillis come home from work in a 55 or 56 plymouth convertible, which probably means Chrysler Corp was that years sponser. Earlier episodes when I was probably only eight years old Riley's ride was a 53 or 54 Ford ragtop, top always down, unbelievable to an Ohio farm boy, this magical place California. Wonder how Spin and Marty are doing?

William Bendix is great as Riley. I love the radio version to. Also the Boston Blackie movies have alot of great old cars.

Thanks for posting this.
Always been a big William Bendix fan. He was real good in Wake Island (1942). He played bad guys too. TM |

Re: Old TV Show with 1932 Ford Hot Rods
Great stuff, and here's some more from the dark side (evil hot rodders, you know), starting with "Dragnet." The description of the '40 coupe in this one matches mine pretty closely!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-j3W...eature=related And here's a little classic "Highway Patrol" -- including a somewhat off topic '32 roadster with a "supercharged" mill. WARNING, NO FLATHEAD, VIEW AT YOUR OWN RISK! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHvDe4D7KVQ What's interesting in these two, as well as the "Riley" episode, was the emphasis on the "clean" hot rodders belonging to clubs, and the outlaws being, well, outlaws. Straight from Wally Parks and all his great efforts back when. |
