1947 coe original

Hey guys,
so about a week ago I got in touch with a guy who had a 1949 ford F-1 cab for sale on my local craigslist. I went to check it out to find the cab was SOLID and completely original down to the last service sticker. I live in New England which is unheard of and to make a long story short we got talking on old ford stuff and he said he had a coe he wanted to sell out back. Turns out its a 1947 Ford coe with a 4 speed and two speed rear end. I ended up working out a deal with him only thing is I don't know if I still wanna go through with it because I have no clue if there are any parts for them or if anyone on here has parts for them that I'd be able to buy from them. If anyone can help me out it'd be greatly appreciated! here are the pictures of the truck!

Too cool not to buy. Other than body parts, I bet most parts are pretty standard and available. I think that there are some COE experts here. Someone would rod that in a heartbeat, which I would hate to see.

Love the COE's. Parts can be hard to come by because they are different from all the light weight Fords and there isn't much for reproduction parts. There are still NOS and used parts out there but you have to spend some time looking for them. They are getting very popular with the custom-street rod guys who put them on a modern chassis. Its really driving up the COE sheet metal values.

You can always re-sell it if finding the parts are taking too long to find. That is my favorite COE out of all of them. I'd buy it if the price was right and had the room.....and had the time!

COE stuff is out there. I recently sold my 40 COE and I had LOTS of extra parts that went with it. Sold it because I have too many projects not because I was missing any hard to find parts.

Try to reach Dan Barrows in Wichita. He was in our St. Louis club until a few months ago, and he's in the Air Force and got transferred to Wichita in April. I don't know if he has had time to join the Wichita RG #25 yet. He has a really nice COE of your vintage, and he should have ideas on parts sources. He's a great guy, and I'm sure he'd love to help.

I've always thought it would be really neat to make a semi-tractor trailer set up with one of these. Impractical as ever but it would be really neat. Or even a flatbed semi trailer on it would be cool.

I'm the guy Bruce mentioned and am now in Wichita. I do have a 47 COE...everything I've been looking for on mine I've found. Just because it's a big truck, doesn't mean the parts are harder to find. There are a few exceptions I'm sure. Ford kept using the same parts for years. For example, one set (can't remember if it's the inner or outer) rear 2-speed wheel bearings are the same as a 2003 F-250. The big book (green bible) of Ford parts is readily available and is a great guide to tell you what the right part us and which other years/vehicles share it.

There is a local concrete company near here that has one of those with a small mixer on the back, used for parades ect. Real nice looking.

I don't think you should buy it. Give me the owners number and I would be HAPPY to get this eyesore out of his yard I would buy that truck in a heartbeat and work out the details later...if you have the space, money and dedication to bring it back.
