Default Sand blasting wheels

My painter is going to sand blast the wheels on the coupe and asked about the coker whitewall tires. I know it would be best to remove the tires from the rims but would the blasting hurt the whitewall part of the tire? Tires are mounted really nice and hate to mess them up by taking off

If it were me, I'd take the tires off the rims. If they were mounted "really nice" as you say, have the same shop remove them and remount them once the rims are painted.

Tom, For peace of mind and considering the high cost of tires, it's probably best to remove the tires. Plus, you can then paint inside the rim. Sandblasting will rough up your whitewalls.

Unless the wheels had been sandblasted at some time previously it's possible some of the worst rust conditions are on the inside of the wheel not on the visable outside.

I have a great shop who does the tire mounting and balance job, will get them over to him to remove. Thanks

You really want a good seal on the rim. And the lasr thing that you don't want is the sand or what ever between the rubber and the rim. Pull the tires off.

I'm wondering that if you sandblast with the tires on the rims, how are you going to paint the rims with the tires on?

Identify rims with matching tires and relative location on the rims for ease of balancing after reinstallation. Make sure your painter cleans all sand from crevices of the wheels, as any remaining sand will be visible after painting.
