Default 6 volt gauges to 12 volt system

I am using the original 6 volt gauges in my 35 pu. they are in perfect condition and I did not have to cut the dash. I am running a 12 volt system. I have 2 runtzs to reduce the 12 volt to 6 volt. where do you wire the runtz at the gauge? any sugestions? thanks steve

On the hot wire feeding the gauge.

Denton, when you wire up that oil pressure\fuel combo gauge, only one hot wire feeds them both, one screw terminal on the oil gauge, with a copper or brass tang jumpin over to the gas gauge, with Runtz you have to remove that jumper and feed the 2 gauges separately or it won't work. Sorry if you already knew this, I just remember doing mine and found out too late.

Thanks. It seems like I remember something about having to remove that connection. the guy I bought them from sent me 2 - one for each gauge that required electric. Nothing like the original Henry stuff. steve

I changed a 47 coupe over to 12 volt and ran new original wiring. It had one wire feeding the gauges and i installed a reducer in the line and it worked both gauges just fine. I do not know the name of the reducer but it was a porcelin one with a wire coil on the back and it was horse shoe shape.

is there a problem with the 6v to 12v switch with the 6v system being positive ground and the 12v being negative ground ?

the gauges in our 53 Victoria are not working. someone told me its because the car is now negative ground and the original gauges were made to work with positive ground. This true ? if so what's the remedy ?

thanks-

I found that the original 6V gauges worked either ground. Used transistor style volt reducer it changed the polarity still 6V but neg ground gauges worked well until the senders wore out. Now i have gauges from 1957 up Ford car or truck changed the faces and the needles used the voltage control from about 1972 Ford 1/2 that hace three gauges working very good. Used the gas sender which is sold as a replacement for the original 1948 sender temp sender from 1957 up Ford and the PS 60 oil presure sender. Laurie

If you did not put a resister into the wire feeding the gauges when you went to 12 volt you may have burned the gauges up.
