What kind of Wax / Polish ?

My car has an old Lacquer paint job , still in pretty good condition . What is the best wax or polish I can use on this ?

I like Nu Finish in the orange bottle. Use it on the 36,my truck and motorcycle. ken ct OMO.

Mothers Carnuba Paste wax. Still my favorite. Make sure you clean off the old wax before adding more or you'll just grind the old dirt and grime into the finish. Try wax and grease remover on a out of the way spot first. You may be surprised at what comes off. Then wax that area to see how it looks. On old Lacquer finishes I like to use Brasso brass polish and a clean cloth as a compound. You have to use the original in the blue and white can not the new one in the plastic bottle. It's changed and doesn't work. Lightly rub the area and see the paint come back to life. I think you'll be amazed.

Car wax, motor oil, are ones own preferance. I like nu finish also, very high quality easy to work with. I also like meguires if you like to pplish and wax seperate

I have been told that you should avoid wax on lacquer and only use polish. Meguiar's makes some really good products, you can email them with your questions and they'll get back to you quick

If the paint is still in fairly nice condition, I might recommend a 3-M finishing compound followed by 3-M's Hand Glaze compound. After that, a good carnauba wax should finish things off nicely.

You dont need to use a wax remover all you need to do is wash your car with Dawn dish soap it will remove the wax on your car

This is a big market where all the majors have high quality products. But for metal finishes, Mother's Power Metal is outstanding. If you need a slight cutting action on any finish, try 3M Finess one time and you will not be without it...pricey but worth it.

(how do you spell Finess?...better go look at bottle)

I used Ice on my A and was impressed, easy to apply, cloth glides off fenders when done, won't show up white anywhere. Great for the modern car, use on bumpers, rubber, etc. One small bottle goes a long way. Try it

I also use to keep it clean and shining Jax Wax Body shine (showroom spray wax.)

I'm new to model A's, but I've been a member of the Rolls-Royce Owner's club for the past 20 years. Collinite Concours d'Elegance wax is the finest, period. Never a problem. Apply it with a damp pad on an orbital buffer, wipe it off with micro fiber rags. The secret to ANY good wax job it the cleaning of the paint underneath the new wax you are applying. Some use a clay bar to produce the slippery clean finish which is most desirable before applying any paste wax, some use liquid polish.. Collinite 426S is also very good and 100% detergent proof. Black car? CLEAN THE PAINT BEFORE WAXING, or you're wasting your time for the ultimate shine. Polish's polish, wax protects. Collonite is "the best there is:, not expensive but made with love in Utica, NY by a little wax company that takes pride in the product.

I have done a lot of Lacquer paint jobs over the years and what you were told is partially true.

It takes a while for the thinners to evaporate out of lacquer so you don't want to wax it until the paint has had a chance to really set. I recommend 1-2 months after the paint is applied.

Then, wax at will. As others have posted above, be sure to completely clean the car before applying more wax or you will have a bunch of nice scratches in the paint over time.

I bought a 29 leather back it was restored over 40 years ago and until I bought it she sat in a heated work shop for eleven year with out being touch. When I went to look at it the car had some shine but oxsidation over the paint after getting her back on the road.I bought a bottle of color back maid by turtle wax it brought it back to a great shine then I put a good coat of carnuba wax every one thinks the car was rececntly repainted the old lacquer looks so good .I no there are a lot of opions and there are a lot of great products out there but this worked great for me.

For the best shine, try Zymol, in the blue bottle.
For older finishes, use the Turtle Wax, "ICE". It will not chalk up in the scratches and crevices.

I once knew a car detailer, known as, "MR. BLACK", he advised me that on BLACK, or other DARK colors, "Whether you're washing, drying, putting on cleaners/wax, wiping, dusting, or whatever, ALWAYS go with the body lines, NEVER in CIRCLES"!----"Use Micro-Fibre towels"----"Change towels often"---"Apply polishes & wax SPARINGLY"! A friend tried his MAGIC-MIRACLE-POO-POO WAX on a spot on Minerva's fender!!!! Afterward, we couldn't even find his "SPOT"---LOL

Just last fall I wiped down my 28 Phaeton with an old oily rag. Now, what kind of oil should I put on the rag? LOL

I've shown cars for many years and have used many different types of waxes, quick detailer, rubbing compound, and found it's pretty much what you like.

I've used Meguiars, Turtle Wax, Mothers, 3D Carnuba, Armour All, Zymol, 3M, Dri Wash N Guard, and more. They all are good wax products.

My favorite is Dri Wash N Guard, because it's easy to apply and does a nice job. They also have a wax that is formulated for black and dark colored cars, repels the dust.

To freshen up a waxed car, I use Meguiars Qwik Detail and/or Lemon Pledge furniture polish. The Lemon Pledge can be applied on a hot car, without any problems.

I no longer show professionally, but do a couple of local car shows per year, not as picky as I used to be for details, but like a good wax on the cars.
