Default Stromberg 81 on a stock A

I finally got this put together and it ain't quite right. Fresh build stock model A motor. Burns downdraft, Red's header, Burn's linkage, Hot coil. Started but won't idle unless choke is almost fully engaged. Idle screws do nothing, sounds like it's going to explode. Won't calm down. Too much carb? Any advice? Electric fuel pump shows less than 1% on regulator. 6 volts.
Thanks

Float level...Stromberg is an emulsion tube carb,if the bowl level is too low it won't draw fuel.

Likely a vacuum leak, an 81 is definitely not too big, I run 3 of them on my modified speedster. A 97 would idle just as well and give more power.

Doesn't "summer setting" refer to the S and W indicators on the throttle linkage rather than the, er, hood?

You may need a fuel pump and pressure regulator if you don't have one. The new 97's are hard to beat on this setup. I have used dual 81's and they are mostly wore out and require rebuilding. The best pair I have was rebuilt by Jere Jobe and they run great on a 31 pickup and a dual Zepher manifold.

Thank you everyone! Yes, vacuum leak. Intake/exhaust manifold was not tightened enough. Had to go back and forth from end to end to finally get where it needed to be. ALSO, accelerator pump in carb was sticking! Replaced and now it's all good. Sorry, didn't understand the "summer" comment. I'll have to look into that.

Could you please tell me where on the throttle linkage these are located (or provide a pic)? I cannot seem to find them or any information about them.
Thanks

I tried an 81, I prefer the 97, I also removed the fuel pump.

Holley 94..if you can get a good power valve they are more efficient than the 97,it uses vacuum signal to control enriching as well as an accelerator pump. By using vacuum it 'sees' what the engine is doing. They are cheaper than the Stromberg's too..

Is anyone rebuilding the 94s professionally and providing linkages? There's a decent ecosystem for the 97s but I don't know anyone doing 94s.

The way I stay ahead of the game is by doing my own work.94's are cheap next to 97's,find them at the swaps for next to nothing. clean them, kit them and off you go...I grab them to harvest early power valves, the new ones on the market today are sketchy.
