Default Thermostat or No Thermostat

I am running without a thermostat with a water temp of 185*. When I use a 160* thermostat I run at 190*. What is a normal, proper temp without a thermostat, and why would the thermostat not control the temp at 160*

Yo, Bill,
"MAYBE" your radiator is PARTIALLY plugged, therefore the thermostat can't do the job it was designed to do, efficiently??

Sounds like you have some radiator trouble.

To directly answer your question, one of my Model As has a new radiator and runs about 140 degrees depending on the outside temp. The other Model A has an older radiator and runs 160 degrees depending on outside temp. Neither of them uses a thermostat.

The thermostat only determines the minimum temp, not the max, unless it is stuck shut.
