Default 1930 California YOM Plates

I just returned from my local DMV with my newly registered 1930 plates.
With the Search function I located many threads that tell many good restoration tips. Does anyone know the correct Orange paint color that they should be painted?

Go to an automotive paint store and ask them to match the color on the backside of the plate. Have them put it in a spray can.

Now that the monster is registered, why not paint the plate background the same as the body color [ if its the car in the pic] . Who's to know or care.

You did. Well, that seems to me like an over zealous cop with nothing else to do. How did he know what the exact color should be anyway. Maybe if the color was WAY off than original I can see that, but, if its somewhat close what the heck. I'd get mad too.

That would be tempering with an official document, and if a D.A. really feels like it, he'd call it document fraud. Probably not such a good idea, totally ignoring that it would destroy a set of $300-or-more license plates.

Which body in the pic are you referring to?

When I had my 1929 calif. plates registered I had to have them restored first. The colors were Poppy Gold on a Black back ground. then I had to take them to the DMV and get them verified they wanted to make sure they were not counterfeit. But this was many years ago.colors are still the same. Richard/Ca PS I remember that they had to check the numbers because at time when I was registering my plates they were using the same number rcombonations on modern day motorcycle plates.

They told me at that time they wanted them already painted so they could verify the paint colors were authentic. They measured the length, thickness and width of the plates and numbers. Richard/Ca

"Poppy gold" California State Flower that makes sense, in 1930 they just reversed the colors.
Thanks

Was poppy gold the color of the letters in 1931 as well?

That would be my assumption since they seemed to alternate colors year to year.
