Default AA 20" Wire Wheel Question

Need to find out for a friend if the early 20" AA Wire wheels will fit on a late 28 large drum. ( bolt pattern is the same ) I know that some early AA trucks had car drums and they changed to large drum with "dish" rims. We want to install the wire wheels on the "dish" large drums. Thanks Bruce
( he lives 1100 Miles west of me, I have wire wheels here )

All AA had the large 14" drums on the rear, the fronts got the 14" in 1930.
Check out the link for what the wheels fit. http://aafords.com/aa-chassis/aa-1000-wheels/

I have a 28AA with wire wheels all around. It is the early left hand service brake. The front spring perches are different than the car. they are clearly marked AA and the shock ball sits up a little higher than the passenger car. The drums I have have the heavy duty hubs in them for the AA wheel. The backing plates and brake hardware are the same as the car so I suspect the drum is the same as car but the spindles and hubs are different. I am talking bout the front end.

You cannot install the 1928 AA wire wheels on the late 1929-1931 drums. the wheels will stick out past the fenders. the offset on the later drums was changed to fit the Budd wheels.

Way to go Steve my drums stick out about a 1 1/8' farther out then a standard A drum.

FYI - wheels are installed on the hubs (not the drums). The 1928/1929 steel spoke and 1929 disk wheels fit all AA through December 1929.

Starting January 1930, the above wheels should not be use for driving. They can be bolted on to just roll the AA (like trailer loading/unloading)

Are there any other wheels from anything else that fits the bolt pattern of a 30-31 AA. Or is there anyone making a new wheel for the 30-31 bolt pattern. I have enough parts to make another AA (I already have two) but the wheels are hard to come by..

thanks tony in VA

I cross referenced and found a forktruck rim the same dimensions as the 29 disc style. I do know a 30-31 studebaker 1.5ton truck rims will fit on an AA.

Seems alot of the big truck bolt patterns were all the same but noone has ever reproduced them.

There is a 29 on ebay right now that might have the wheels you need. Price is about right, if it stays there. It's in Kansas, not too far away...
