Default 37 to 48 Water Pumps Rebuild.

Have dismantled 2 water pumps ex 85 HP engine. All intact nil broken pulleys etc.
Have 2 pump repair kits, Dennis Carpenter 78-8591 (Made in China).
The impeller is not fitted to shaft. There is a hole towards the end of one end with a supplied taper pin. However nil hole through impeller to align with hole location in shaft. Also the bronze bush as supplied in the kit is 6 mm longer than bush as removed from old pump. Suspect extra length to allow for slightly different pump seal.

Maybe just to press shaft into impeller and forget about the taper pin as nil line up hole at impeller body.
Appreciate advice. The press in fit of shaft into impeller with be secure.
Van Pelt has these kits also with the taper pin.

Here down under in NZ to send pumps to US shipping is out there.
Can get new pumps but why not rebuild old ones as have a few of them.
Have already done 2 truck type pumps, no drama, thanks to good advice from this forum.

Did the pump you removed the shorter bush from have a ceramic seal fitted? If so, the oilite bush needs to be shortened accordingly

Just an update on the Dennis Carpenter kit for the 37 to 48 Water Pumps.
There was nil instruction with the kit.

Simply based on your name, I was unable to find a record of previous sale of these repair kits. However, that is a mote point as I assume you are inquiring about the 78-8591 repair kit which does include the tapered, aluminum pin. This pin is used as a temporary "locator" to adjust the depth of the press fit into the impeller. You simply insert the smooth (small end) of the pin into the corresponding hole in the shaft. Press in only far enough that splines on the larger end of the pin engage enough to keep the pin from falling out. The shaft is then pressed into the blade side of the impeller to just before the pin touches the impeller body. Be sure to leave enough room to push the pin back out as there is a small shoulder around the inner diameter of the impeller body. That's basically it, the pin is simply a 'single use" positioning device. Please be aware that these kits are for repair of original pumps only and will not work on our newer design 78-8501-N & 78-8502-N pumps which have a larger diameter shaft.

Could be of assistance for others.
