Question 1940 ford Lug nut pattern

I purchased a complete set of hubs(front and rear) and found that the rears measured 5 on 5.5 and the front measured 5 on 5.0. This doesn`t seem right. I was starting to look for a set of wheels and would have been very confused. I thought front and rear would be the same??? What is the correct bolt pattern for plain steel wheels that year?

The correct bolt circle pattern for a 1940 Ford car is 5 x 5 1/2.
Here's a 5x5 chart. Make sure back spacing and wheel center hole is large enough to clear hub. Are the hubs you bought large enough to redrill the BP? Open and scroll down.

If you decide to buy new 5 x 5 1/2 hubs I recommend MT Products new style where the drum slips over the wheel lugs. not cheap, but well worth the money.

Thank you for the info. I would rather find the correct hubs than do any drilling. The front spindles will be 40` and the rear end is 40`. Thanks again.

Those Lincoln type drums are almost too nice to put in service. Those things are killer. I like the looks better than the finned buisky types.

I agree, but like painted better.
Flat black epoxy primer would probably give better heat dissipation.
Plus you can use 2 in. wide brake shoes.
