Default 63 260 Trans

I've recently acquired a nice 63 fairlane s.w. with original 260 eng./A.T. The eng.is sound, the trans is junk. What else will fit? I prefer auto. Thanks J.B.

ford changed the bellhousing bolt pattern around 1964 or 65.a c4 has a removable belhousing so if they are both c4s you may be able to swap bellhousings.

Use a later model C4, just switch bell housings, assuming you already have a C4. The post 71 C4s have a better design, and rebuild kits and shift kits are readily available (although ALL C4s are good trannys)If you have the Two speed auto, you will need a pre 1965 C4 bell housing (I have several)and possibly a matching 260 C4 flywheel. A good C4 would be a 302 Mustang II, which had a deeper sump pan and will hold more fluid.
