Re: Bob Drake U Joint
Junk! The u-joint doesn't tighten up against the rear out put bearing thus allowing the output shaft to move forward and trash the front synchronizer. Seen it twice.

Re: Bob Drake U Joint
Glad I posted this question, this is what I was after. What blows me away is the U Joint is still marketed.

Re: Bob Drake U Joint
No, it's too short. With the u-joint installed and the bolt and washer tightened up the u-joint can be moved about 1/4" in and out on the output shaft. With the bolt tight the u-joint should tighten against the rear transmission bearing to prevent any movement of the output shaft.

Re: Bob Drake U Joint
on open drive setups the yoke doesn't tighten up to the rear bearing , I think the front and rear thrust washers control movement,

Re: Bob Drake U Joint
Not only is it too long but I ran one for about 6,000 miles and the casting opened up and let the u-joint cups start spinning in the housings.

Re: Bob Drake U Joint
I bought 2 of these a couple years ago. After I installed the first one I noticed what Ken says in post 2. I pulled the second one out and installed it and was ok. I lubed it up with JD corn head grease. Haven’t driven the car yet any distance so I can’t report on longevity.
