Question Remove rust spots from upholstery ???

I recently purchased a Cabriolet that has several small rust spots on the cloth seat. Is there a product or a method to remove the rust spots without taking the colour out of the fabric ? Thanks in advance for your help ! Al

I have had reasonable success using a steamer to unlock stains however I am not sure if the steam would cause the iron stains to streak. Depending on how 'valuable' this upholstery is to you, I think I would seek a true professional to take care of this.

I had a couple small spots on my cabriolet seat also. I got the foaming apholstery cleaner. It worked pretty good.

It has been said and you can find in many lookups that plain Lemon juice - the real stuff - will work on rust stains when left in the Sun. Since its your seat it would be a easy thing to try.

I have a bad stain in the headliner I would love to try this with, but since I would have to turn the car upside down to get the Sun on it, I won't be able to tell if it works.

Go to your local Supermarket in the cleaning section. I don't remember the name of the stuff but I was in a brown bottle about 6 inches tall. It was a rust remover and I successfully took rust out of a white carpet. This stuff is amazing sorry I don't know the name of the product for you.

The rust remover shown above works on rust anywhere. Chrome, sinks, clothes, etc. However, be really careful because it will also take the color out. Use a Q tip and apply it very carefully. Have a very wet rag handy to dilute/ wash out the chemical as soon as you start to see the stain dissapearing. Its like magic, the stain just goes away. Be careful though, as the color can dissapear like magic as well.

Tuff stuff from any auto supply store. Never used it to get rust out, but it can clean the crap out of a cloth seat. We use it on customer cars all the time to take out stains, and clean door panels.

How about hydrogen peroxide? It takes blood stains out of my collar when I’ve shaved. Might be worth a try on a underside piece first before going at the stains..... to make sure that there isn't a reaction with the cloth.

I've had good success using phosphoric acid.
Dab on a medium solution, rinse with cold water from a spray mister and suck up with a shop vac. It takes several cycles.
Metal etch, metal prep, Rust Mort or navel jelly all carry phosphoric.
I'm sure Lemon juice would work to some extent.
Heat increases the effectiveness of acids...hence probably the mention of working with lemon in the sun. Trouble with heat is it "sets" stains ....so I would play it safe and keep things cool, also consider cleaning a hidden spot first to understand if a noticeable degree of fabric dye will be sucked out. Adjust cycles accordingly and use plenty of water.
PS don't forget to clean your vacuum attachment well before commencement of suction. I also wrap masking tape around the tip just in case.

A Plate Glass Mirror on your seat and reflecting the sun onto the headliner would work perhaps?
