Default Holley purchases MSD

More consolidation of manufacturers:

MSD was owned by a private equity group and was purchased by another similar group. There is equity / value in those brand names, whether you are getting what those brand names originally stood for is another story.

Good for them. Seems like just yesterday I was trying to get my hands on a replacement carburetor for my old F100 while they were filing for bankruptcy. Filed for Chapter 11 in '09, and emerged in 2010 according to wikipedia.

So Holley finally found a way to come out on top. Just buy out the competition. They now own all the aftermarket performance ignition companies such as Accel & Mallory plus MSD. Now if they can just manage those companies to make good products without going bust, they will be OK. It's been a long time since an auto manufacturer used a carburetor. The old car enthusiasts are their largest market for most of their products.

I fear the key to success is raising prices. The MSD ready-to-run that I paid $250 for in '05 is close to $500 now.

Not really, the large market is hot rods and racers.

Guys,
Dollars be damned....the crab dist for '32 - '48 and the SBC converted to
8ba dist are the reigning champs for street driven flatheads. They are cost effective
because little guys build 'em without corporate overhead and BS. OMHO ! Points,
Points, Points !

Most hot rods and racers are old cars now if I'm not mistaken. The newer stuff is all computer controlled so doesn't lend itself well to old technology.
