Deluxe Sport Roadster?
My father gave me the car in the picture. He always called it a Deluxe Sport Roadster. Was there ever an official designation of "Sport" in any of the "A" body styles. If not about when did this extra name start to be used. My mother gave him the car for his birthday in about 1971 and I wonder if this is a 70's era identification add on?

It looks like a deluxe roadster, but, I think the windshield would need to be measured for sure.

Re: Deluxe Sport Roadster?
there was a Sport Coupe which looks like a Cabriolet but the top does not come down. Many manufacturers called their roadsters "sport roadsters" in the 20's and 30's, but not Ford. Its probably a generic term from your dads young adulthood that he incorporated into his lexicon.

Re: Deluxe Sport Roadster?
The 2 DR Phaeton was originally called a Sport Phaeton but was dropped in favor of Deluxe Phaeton.

You can see a fine example on the back cover of the last issue from MARC, which scored very well at last years meet in Oshkosh.

Re: Deluxe Sport Roadster?
Thanks all, I kind of figured dad had just added the "Sport" part it would fit him better. He loved his roadster and it will stay in the family. He gave me mom's 53 Chevy convert also. As soon as my son gets a house with a garage that will come out of storage and go to him. I did say thank you but it was very hard driving away from his house with the roadster in tow and seeing dad look at us leave. A's are truly part of the family.

No matter what it's called, it's a great looking A.

Unless the picture is not showing it properly, it also looks like a 30 Rad Shell. Iceman
