Anybody going to IOLA this year?
Is anyone on here going to IOLA car show/swapmeet in July?
http://iolaoldcarshow.com/ I went 2 years ago and took me 11 hrs of walking one day to see all the swap spaces (I didn't stop at every one and wasn't crawling along either), and another 6-8 Hrs the next day to oogle at all the cars on display/show! I did learn a few things for this year: 1) even if its cloudy and only 82*F WEAR SUNSCREEN! 2) Bring a wagon, wheel barrow, bucket, SOMETHING to haul stuff with - no fun hauling an intake/exhaust manifold set 3/4 of a mile back to my truck by hand haha. 3) wear pants that have big pockets for the little stuff 4) if you see it and like it - buy it - it wont be there when you come back/if you can find the space again... 5) either have a printed off copy of the swap spaces and a pen to make a note of the good spaces or if you've asked the guy selling stuff if he can hold your larger items till you come back - or a handheld GPS to make waypoints along your adventure. 6) wear good shoes! cant stress this enough - hiking type shoes are best - morning dew on the grass can be slick! 7) Write down over the next few weeks everything you know you need or would like better of - i seem to always forget something even though i saw/touched 4 or 5 of them So who is going? Are any of you bringing stuff to sell? Its in one month so I figured id see whos doing what now as I barely got hotel reservations 2 days ago...

Re: Anybody going to IOLA this year?
I should have and been meaning to earlier but oh well, same place I stayed last time and had excellent service and very clean/spacious rooms. The Hilltop Pub and Grill in Stevens Point has excellent food and their own beer for reasonable prices.
http://www.hilltoppubandgrill.com/ Also ate at Bullheads bar and grille - north of Stevens Point a bit but a beautiful drive and right on WI river. Cheap beer and good food! http://bullheadsbargrill.com/menu/ Anyone know of any other good places to eat for dinner?

I need to go ....
I had the very great pleasure of meeting Mr. Chet Krause several years ago when I hauled a pair of jeeps & a trailer he sold to a retired army officer in California .... Jim |

Re: Anybody going to IOLA this year?
I have attended since 1974.Was married that year and when traveling North, stumbled on the peninsular park where Chet offered the chicken dinners and a few extras. You could walk the vendors in about a half hour then. This year the publication company which purchased Krause Publications is taking a much more active role in running the show. The Wisconsin Automotive Historians have in the past been a dominant group in choosing the show's theme and laying out the tent and choosing which vehicles would be displayed under tent. Some of the show's dominant management have been replaced. I stay at Iola House in the town. No air conditioning and the most basic comforts, a step above camping. I will try and visit Jim Mason at Doc's spot this year. Dan

Re: Anybody going to IOLA this year?
It now takes all day and yes, they rent scooters. I think they might have handicap parking close to the scooters, but am not positive on that.

This is some great advice for this swap meet. Only thing I can add is to get some cheese curds. They are amazing. We will be driving all the way from Houston, TX. |

Re: Anybody going to IOLA this year?
I will be there on Saturday .going for a walk .been there about 4 times in the last 10 years and always bring home a car full of treasures. wonderful swap meet and well laid out. I know by Saturday things will be picked over but that's when I can get there. at 65 years old the legs get very tired by the end of a 10 hour walk. but at least I can still do it.
