Confused - turn signals

I'm using the signal stat, fog lights in the front and orig lights in the back along with the in-between bumper lights in the rear. Ran wires myself in the old looking loom, all conn hidden behind LH kick panel. Tedius but looks "original" for the 40's and on. FWIW

I use Logo Lites. A little pricey but easy to install and they work great.

I have been thinking about getting one of these for my left hand. Still no good at night, but easier for others to see during the day!

I use hand signals, not for safety, but because it's the law. The law requires it from ME, the vehicle operator, to signal a lane change or turn, and I use exactly the signals the law requires me to use.



I can't base on what I do in life on the stupidest, not-attention-paying, texting kid. I obey by the law, and if others do not, they'll have to pay up for it. Their problem, not mine.

Not true! I absolutely love having the lever in a position where I do not have to take my left hand off the wheel- just extend a finger or two, like on a modern car.

I think Mike (the original poster) is saying that he already knows that his 5 customers do not want the lever on their column like you have. He is not making a global claim that no one driving a Model A wants a lever on the column.

Is it the bulk of the signal stat they don't like? Or that you can see the lever?

Otherwise my old '58 VW had this lever for the semaphores:


There are also some REALLY neat clockwork switches, you turn it to either side, and it ticks away (eventually cancelling itself) and some also take the place of the flasher relay - it flashes the lights itself!

Here's a photo of my setup. Double rear taillights with LED lens wired as both brake and turn signals. A third brake light wired for brake light only. Front turn signals are re-wired Logo wires for 6 volt operation. Circuitry is relay logic and is mounted in a small box under the drivers seat. The two switches (one for turn and one for flashers) are mounted in the header panel above the windshield along with a small green LED light which lights to let me know the turn signals are flashing. All done with no modification to Henry Ford steel.

I used the A-13310-A6 switch from Snyders. I was going to mount under the dash but my son insisted it was best on the shift lever. I went with his suggestion and agree. The kit says to wrap the wire to the lever with tape but we took a long piece of black heat shrink and it works well and looks good. The functionality of having it on the shift lever is good as I am usually shifting when preparing for a turn. I used the stock tail lights and the halogen kit up front. Snyders was unaware that 6v bulbs are available from O'Reilly's or Autozone. Maybe not as bright at night but still visible and visibility is not as much an issue for those in front of me as it is my responsibility to steer clear of danger in front. I'm happy with my set up and would do it exactly like that in the future.

Well Im only 50 years old so I will probably be the last person in the USA to use hand signals ,I drive in a really populated area and it s all in how you do it- kind of like Im leading a band!

I can almost GUARANTEE you that in Virginia, Maryland, DC and maybe many other states MOST YOUNG drivers don't understand why you are waving your hand out the window.

IMHO you must have BRIGHT turn signals DAY or NIGHT as you are a slow mover.

Pricey, but they work great, are a mod that is easily reversible, come in 6v and 12v versions, have a 4-way emergency flasher capability, and are wired completely independant of the other wiring and lights on your car.

I tried to make my turn signals look compatible with my '29. For the rear I used the model A tail lights on the car. For the front I bought 2 '32 Ford cowl lights, made brackets and fastened them to the inside of the front bumper at the bumper clamps. Did my own wiring and used a spdt switch under the dash. The 6 v flasher and socket I bought at a local auto parts store. All lights are 6 v bulbs.

I'm very happy with the logo lites. They're plenty bright, visible but unobtrusive. The independent wiring was a breeze to install and the controller tucks up under the dash panel when I don't want it be visible.
