Default Any 29 Business Coupe owners here?

Beside PO51 (Steve) and myself, are there any other 1929 Business Coupe (54-A) owners here?

Yes, I have an early 1929 unrestored business coupe. It has a Feb date on the gas tank, and does not have the oval windows. Does have the full long bow thru the area where the windows appeared on the later cars.

Dave, you've got the hardest part covered! Get a sports coupe body and put it all together.

Lycoming-8, your mfg. date is very interesting. My firewall date is 3/18/29, with oval windows. I wonder if we can get any closer to the transition date than that! Where are you located?

That's my intention, as there were no business coupes imported into Australia originally, but I also have a type 304 ute, special coupe and a tudor to restore.

I know of two 29's with the oval windows in the Wichita A's. Mine is an early 28.

I have a restored oval, 3/29/29. It was the Henry car at the 1994 meet. I had nothing to do with the resto. I doubt there is a better restored one. There are two more in the Chicago area that I know of. One is a 5000 mile original and the other was the MARC best of show in 1972. My car and the original were in St. Charles, IL in 1994. If you have an old Sept/Oct 1994 MAN you can see them. I need to take more photos of my car but here is an old one.

We had two in our Twin Cities club and one was restored by Brent Terry. Unfortunately that guy moved to Arizona a short time ago, so now we only have one that I know of.

Here is an un-restored one I took a pic of at the 2004 MARC meet in Madison, Wisconsin. It had a real cool look to it, even with orange wheels and white walls!

The other one has the windows put in wrong. Oops!

WTSHNN,

It appears that the business coupe that had the windows installed incorrectly was originally one of the non-window 1928 or early '29. You can see where the full length bow has made an impression in the top material clear down to the corner by the door. Too bad it got butchered !!

I was thinking the same thing, the windows looked weird! But as I'm finding out the brackets that you need to use the short bow so you can have the oval windows are impossible to find!

Some one is repoping the special bracket, there was an earlier thread with a post about them for sale on eBay a couple weeks ago. can't remember who posted, but they had the item number and the auction completed, they looked very well made

The oval window came about with EI 10700...not sure of the date on that EI but I would amigine soon after that the parts for the window assembly were being sent to the assembnly plants.

(You can view all of the parts used in the assembly of the oval window assembly by going to the MAFFI site, go to the parts section, then type in EI 10700).

Assembly plant codes and the original engine stamping on the frame, providing it was an original, unrestored car to start with, could also give you clues as to a closer build date...maybe not.

That is why it is so important to document unrestored original and intact vehicles just for this reason...but not all take the time to do so, so a lot of technical data gets lost in the shuffel.
