John, I noticed your zip-a-rack right off! I recently acquired this one which had been on Bill Williamson's VERMIN. It came in handy for mounting a 12 volt battery to power the decorations for the Clovis, CA Children's Christmas Light Parade last Saturday. Russ

1930-Pickup,

I use to keep my unrestored '29 Chevy and '31 "A" roadster together in my shop building. I would walk in and the patina smell was so strong I would just stand there with a big smile on my face going "oh wow"!

Bob-A , I know what you mean . I have my " A " , " Betty " , in the attached garage this winter doing a lot of stuff to her , and every time I step out the door into the garage , I smell that patina and many memories come back of younger days playing with these old cars .

Mine is one that John LaVoy built and marketed a few years ago. About the only thing shiny on the car. Wish I could find an old original without all that plating.

That DUDE only cost me $285.00, including shipping, from my Buddy, Brentwood Bob! He even re-plated the CHROME Face Bar for me He said THAT rack once hauled a short block, from Northern California, to Los Angeles

Patina is what we and our cars get as we grow older. However, I have it on good info that the fountain of youth is a fire hydrant in a certain place, and if you drive through its stream, patina reverses itself.

I hope as I get older I don't smell like the car did when I got it. A lot of mice had peed in the interior. Now it has a new interior, safety glass, motor rebuilt, new tires, tranny and rear end bearings replaced along with new top and header,seat belts and turn signals. It is ready to tour except I need to finish coating it with flat clear. Got to protect that rust.

IMHO the word Patina is way over used! If you have an original paint car and want to preserve it, then yes you have Patina worth saving. But if you clear coat or "oil" a rusty old restoration from the 50's - 70's, you have a rusty old restoration not patina.

Patina smell! Is that another way of describing mold, mildew, rancid grease, and bad gasoline?

I've "read" about Guys spraying on METAL PARTICLES/ACIDS/ETC, to simulate Old Rusty lookin' "patina" & sometimes spray on CLEAR, to "protect" the patina. Everyone has "fun", in their OWN way!!!

Start with a shop vac with a soft brush end, then use a damp old towel to wipe it clean. I try to not use a hose, as the water gets everywhere and causes rust.

My 28 Phaeton looked the same way when I brought it home, and I thought about leaving all the dirt on it, but decided I really didn't want all that dirt rubbing off on my clothes every time I got near the car.

I brought mine home almost three years ago and haven't washed it yet

The dirt has not been a major problem for me but I do keep the inside mostly clean.

The most annoying thing is when someone walks up to it, takes a finger and swipes the fender, they hold up their finger with a frown on their face, and then asks when I'm going to paint it. Now I have a finger streak I have to live with another month before it fades away. And these are car-people!
