Default Some Bad habits !!!!

Over the years you could tell a lot about a guys skills as a mechanic based on what lube he used. I have torn down gasoline engines with white lube in them so deep the engine was locked up !!! Seen them blown up using STP straight
( its a concentrate know) only works when mixed with oil??
I took this crab in as a customer had rebuilt , just for testing etc , dont actually know if he ever tryed running it or not ( doesnt matter) put it in the distributor machine and Terry even commented as to how nice it looked !!! Clean and well done , but when i fired the machne up two things happened , 1=it has no advance and two it blew the circuit breaker on my Allen tester . ( kinda rare) ... Further showed a very dry leather vac brake so i removed it and it still didnt have any advance . On the bench and apart (even had a screw in place of condensor screw using a ton of locktite , had trouble getting it out ) And there it was the dreaded old cold white lube !!!!!
Ya just cant do that !!!!!!

I found a can of spray lube that works very well and prevents rust at the same time . Stay tuned we will clean it up and retest !!!!!

The vacuum brake should be lubed as per picture , the lube on the leather is good and the lube on the piston prevents the wife ( had this a couple times) saying honey i hear a little bitty squeal in the engine ,there is nothing worse than a kittle bitty squeal that you ( ole deaf guy) cant hear and the wife can ????rbgt

I believe lubriplate is a soap based lube.

My dad used lubriplate on everything and it always dried out and turned hard. I have never used it on anything.

Finally got back to the project , cleaned the grease off and reassembled the unit with light spray lube . Tested on machine , will box up and back to customer . Used a new shim and snap ring ( from Gen 3) works very well....
