Putting the pickup to work
We usually don't let our restorations get too stressed out by doing actual work. However recently I have been busy rebuilding the engine of our 1954 MG TF. It suffered the setback of a broken crankshaft. After nearly two months of getting it all together, I finally had to bring the engine home for installation. That involved transporting from Sarnia to my rental garage in nearby Corunna Ontario. Merlot performed the job well, and no scratches either; what a nice photo-op. Cheers, Byron W.

Re: Putting the pickup to work
Byron, Merlot is sure looking good...and earning his keep too. I too, have been enamored with MGs. Maybe you could post a couple of pix of yours...show Merlot in the background so you can say the post was Ford related....look in the background of one of my pix and you'll see Clem in the garage...Sold my last B (a junkyard resurrection-spent more $$ and sweat in this one than I should have but wow, was it ever a fun car...my 2nd MG) to a very good friend a few years back, and he has it looking better than I ever could have. Here's a couple pix from when I owned it...

Re: Putting the pickup to work
I use my 37 for all kinds of things-like hauling brush to the re-cycling center. The person who charges you always gets a kick out of it when I show up in May. Needless to say May is getting scratched up-I figure these trucks were made to work-so I work mine.

Re: Putting the pickup to work
It's nice to see a truck as it was made, not all gussied up with wide whites and other geegaws.

Born to be different. Don't own all those now but back in the day, I still have 61 vert VW, VW's are what I learned the love of wrenching. Day and night hours on end.

Re: Putting the pickup to work
Here's a little different twist if you like hit and miss engines. The 226 c.i. six does just fine. Receiver hitch from a 73-87 Chxxx pickup bolts up to Ford frame and allows use of factory spare tire mount.

Re: Putting the pickup to work
Byron,
Love that Merlot. I hesitated posting "pickup in use" pictures because I didn't want to highjack the thread. Looks like it's too late!! Here's my working trucks. The '34 is great for hauling long lumber (and my 1954 boat) on the rack. The 1950 F1 is better for hauling plywood because the '34's bed is only 46 inches wide. Love those early, NO wheel housing beds. |

Re: Putting the pickup to work
Shadetree: Ol' Clyde is STILL a working truck - I am building a platform in my new courtroom (don't ask!), and Ol' Clyde has made a number of trips to the local hardware store.........each time, the guys have to make a comment, or two......last week, driving Ol' Clyde back to Walnut Grove, I spied their '09 Chebby delivery truck on the side of the road - gave the boys a ride back to Carthage......NO MORE comments (except NOW they want to buy Ol' Clyde....ain't happenin'!! Thanks for showing these pictures.......brings back such SUPER memories.......
