Most hood problems result from tired springs The secret in getting the rear portion of the hood to fall flat on the cowl is strong, non stretched springs. If the hood arm pivots show no looseness, and both springs are of equal tension, the rear of the hood will be pulled down as the arms go over center. The part number for the springs is 91A-16782/3 for a st of two at C&G 800/266-0470. They also sell the springs and arms if needed.

Same problem on 41 hood was up on one side at cowel. Easy fix with the hood open. Loosen the two bolts holding the hinge to the fender. Loosen one bolt holding hinge to the fender above the kick panel inside the car. Now carefully pry the hinge up. Mine only moved less than 1/8" and problem solved. Sits perfect now. I put a heavy rag on the fender and used a 2x4 for leverage and small crow bar to lift the hinge.

Everything sounded good until he mentioned moving the fenders up to close the gap. I don't think I would want to do that with an already painted car, could look worse than a gap in the hood. I'll try to get it o fit better by his instructions. Al

I have a pdf copy of Mark Kicsak's hood alignment instructions but there is a security token problem when I try to upload it to this page. My email is [email protected] if you want me to send it directly to you.

This week I took the hood off a ‘46 Mercury coupe. It fit real well and looked good.
Now I’m worried that after I change engines I might have the same trouble.
I am having the hood hinge problem on my F1. I have to push down on each side to make it sit right.

Simple fix. Loosen the two bolts at hinge and one inside above the kick panel. Gently pry the hinge up using a 2x4 and pry bar. Mine only moved about 1/8" and hood sits down nice and flush to the cowel. Hope this helps.
