New York State Department of Motor Vehicles
I guess there is a first time for everything, after owning this Model A for over 5 years, for the first time I get a reminder that my Model A is due for an inspection, and also informed to go to: nhtsa.gov to check if your FORD is subject to a safety recall. This shows how up to date this bureaucracy is.

Re: New York State Department of Motor Vehicles
Would the inspectors know what they had in front of them??
Over here, the Australian Design Rules came into effect in 1968. Up till then, there was no requirement for cars to have such things as turning indicators, seat belts, demisters etc, many of the things that are taken for granted nowadays. The requirement to install them applied only to cars manufactured after the ADRs came into effect. Most of the vehicle inspectors about now weren't even born in 1968 and have real trouble getting their heads around the fact that our cars don't have to have those things fitted. I expect it's the same over there. Good luck!

Re: New York State Department of Motor Vehicles
there is NO inspection for an antique............ only customs
teps in the New York Historic Vehicle Registration Process Car owners registering an antique vehicle in New York will be required to complete fewer steps than those that apply for registering custom vehicles. Furthermore, NY historic license plates can be obtained by submitting the standard application for a registration and title (Form MV-82) and the Historical License Plates application (Form MV-440H). In order to process your request for an antique auto registration and plates, the DMV also requires a copy of your driving license, proof of ownership and proof of a valid auto insurance coverage. Depending on your circumstances, the DMV may also require you to submit a sales tax receipt. To finalize the process of obtaining historic license plates in NY, deliver the items outlined above along with the fee payment by mail to the DMV Custom Plates Unit or in person through any DMV location. |

Re: New York State Department of Motor Vehicles
If you register a vehicle in NYS,whether it is 1 day or 100 years old, to drive it on the highway, an inspection is MANDATORY.

Re: New York State Department of Motor Vehicles
STUFF happens doesn't it ! You fell thru the cracks.
Ford does have some recalls on some of their products, So I'm sure you're interested it you would be involved. [smiley face] If you have had this vehicle on the road for any time I'm sure you're familiar with NYS and its safety only inspection. The inspector probably will not be very happy about removing a front wheel and hub though. |

Just made sure that the lights, horn, and tires were OK and working. If the car being inspected is a junker, they might look closer. Enjoy. |

Re: New York State Department of Motor Vehicles
The inspection I have been getting every year since owning the car, the part which I meant to emphasize, is how DMV emailed me to check, if my Ford is subject to a safety recall.

Yep, I understand. A front wheel doesn't come off mine either and I wouldn't allow it even though its required. I used to be the inspectors inspector. |

Re: New York State Department of Motor Vehicles
Ronn,It sounds like you are thinking of a VIN inspection,or verification. These guys are talking about the yearly safety inspection done after you get it registered.

You have a period of time after registering your car to get the Safety Inspection. Safety Inspection is done once a year referencing the date on inspection sticker. There is a fine if you are stopped while driving a car registered in New York State that either does not have an inspection sticker or the inspection sticker has expired. The longer expired the high the fine. You don’t need the inspection sticker to register the car. That’s mostlikely why you might have been registering the car for years and not had the safety inspection done yearly. As you mentioned, it is not driven that offen. It’s not a big deal to get the inspection as long as your car is in good working order. Enjoy. |
