Default Newbie: 1936 Ford Deluxe Truck Model 67

Looking at purchasing 1936 Ford Deluxe Truck Model 67. My question is - was such a truck made? It has 112” wheel base. I’m told it is a 1 1/2 ton. It was originally a stake bed but first owner swapped to one of his own making.
Thoughts? Info?

moosemoon, Welcome to Ford Barn. With reference to your 1936 Ford V8 Truck, you mention Model 67?. I believe that the Pickups were known as Model 67. The larger 1936 Ford V8 Trucks were Model 51. This information is for Australian Ford Commercials so may not apply to the USA models? Regards Mercman <><

Ford did make a Deluxe in 1936 and from the picture, the one you are thinking about buying appears to be one. The picture shows the chromed Deluxe grill, the chromed windshield frame, two horns, and it appears to have the two windshield wiper setup that was on the Deluxe. There are other features of the Deluxe but they would not be visible in the picture posted.

That doesn't look like a 112" wheelbase in the photo. The 112" was same as passenger car. Most trucks were 122" or longer. The really short ones were usually cab over engine types. Some 112" trucks were shortened from 131 1/2" frames for special purpose in the 1936 time frame but I don't think Ford made those conversions. Dearborn Line made COE conversion trucks in 1936 since Ford hadn't started doing that yet. There were several other companies that made them as well.

Ford did make their own truck beds but there were also aftermarket beds made for all sorts of different purposes. Trucks could be modified for more weight capability by installation of dual rear wheels, multiple ply load rated tires, and heavier springs.

I think you'd find that truck has a 131" wheelbase without looking it up. They were also available in a 157" WB. It appears to be that rare deluxe and an remarkable condition. IMHO that truck would bring about as much money as an early V8 big truck could bring. Unmolested, excellent patina (whether it's original paint or not). All the deluxe big trucks with the features of that one that I have come across were dealer demonstrators and most likely painted two tone black and yellow or dk blue and yellow. I will look this thing up Jim Wagner's 'Ford Trucks since 1905'. It is definately 'In the perfect state of disrepair' in my somewhat distorted vision! Edit: That's a factory script stake bed mounted on a hoist. 10,000 original miles, I would snap that thing up before one of the other 24 watchers does.

Break out your tape measure. It's a model 51 with a 131" wheel base, not a model 67 with a 112" wheelbase. No pre-WWII 112" wheelbase trucks were offered by Ford with dual wheel rear axles.

Be still my heart. What a beautiful survivor. even at my tender age, and being unable to drive my old truck, I'd give my right testical for it, just to look at.

Welcome to the Barn. That looks to be a very nice truck. Judging by the raised bed in the photo I’m guessing that the PTO and all the components to operate the bed are there and operable which can be rare in these old trucks.

Well, this the 3rd time I’ve tried to post this.

Thank you for all the insights and comments. I, too, believe the wb is longer tha 112”. That and the dual wheels also lead me to believe it is a model 51.

It has all the Deluxe add-ons. The ashtray, cigar lighter (lighter missing), sliding glass window. The chrome is visible in the pic. Owner says original mirror was not chromed and he extended it so he could see better. The dual windshield wipers were replaced by the 2nd owner and the current owner removed them because they didn’t fit well.

The seller says everything works. He has not driven it much lately but has had it started and driving. Hoist works. The original owner replaced the stake bed with shorter walls and hand forged iron pieces.

Are the serial numbers for this year supposed to contain letters. His listed vin is only numbers.

I hope to make it nice (preserve patina) and use it to run errands to pick stuff up and dump things off. The bed will need to be replaced.

Think you all now know about as much as I do. Would appreciate any further insights, info, comments. Thank you again

Neat truck surprisingly well preserved. Unlike its predecessors through the '34 model year, the '35-'36 model year big truck serial numbers contained no letters.
