Default Starter motor thrust

Is there a spec for movement in the shaft of the starter motor? any good links to rebuilding?

If you are talking about end float or movement back and forth of the armature shaft then it is not super critical but something like .015"would be good. However shaft sideways movement should be next to zero and if there is much movement here the the bronze bushes are worn and need to be replaced. If you are not keen to repair a starter yourself then a good older auto electrical shop would be the go. Regards, Kevin.

Yes its the back n forth of the armature. As you can see by the pic , the finest of Chinese has given up after years. All I can do is see a mate with heaps of parts and I acquired an armature [6V] from him to put it back together, I did it before with one of these Chinese specials, Im sure its the one in there now. I also grabbed a complete original [6V] Starter, both have heaps of back n forth so that was my question mainly. Im not a fan of using the 6 volt stuff as Im running 12 volt but as Im not driving daily anymore its just going to have to do!
