Thanks for the pic! This was one of the few remaining prefix tags I didn't have. From everything we know, this would seem to have been the 113th built as you stated. From what I have dug up, there were only 4,589 domestically produced in '30-'31.

Why do you believe any 160-C were produced in 1930?
Do you have a reference you can supply?

There were NO 160c ever produced in 1930 and in 31 my reference shows 2491 approx produced hence the 2nd (town car 1st) rarest Model A Produced. That number of 4400+ is intermingled other sedans based on other records.

AS pluck says: In the 1931 ART, the 160-C (Deluxe Fordor Sedan Slant Window/Briggs) numbers were intermingled with the 170-B (Deluxe Fordor Sedan/Briggs) figures.

USA had 3231; Foreign had 1358; Canada had 378. The 1932 ART tells us that only the foreign market produced these at 202 (160-C).

The 160-CDL replaced the 170-BDL in July 1931.

HOWEVER...Stated in the book "The Ford Model A as Henry Built it" it states that there were 2491 160-C's (DL) and 740 170-B's (DL) built in 1931.

Mark,
When you say that the 160-C replaced the 170-B Deluxe in July 1931, that would imply that there should be indented firewall gas valve 170-B's in existence. Does anyone have one?

Also your statement implies to me that the 160-C was introduced in July 1931. Is that what you meant? There are a number of flat firewall 160-C's in my records which should have been produced before May 1931, not in/after July.

Where did the July 1931 reference come from?

This is great discussion! THANKS AND KEEP IT GOING!

I am just looking for clarification and understanding.

So a related question is:
Does anyone have an indented firewall (under hood gas valve) 170-B?
That is a 1931 straight windshield blind back 2 window Fordor sedan?
Can you supply a pic or a body tag number?
Thanks

NO NO. That was a quote from PLUCKS statement... YES the 160-c did have the flat firewall in the early cars.. I believe the July 31 was the by then 100% indented firewalls at that point.
Also I have never seen a 170B with an indented firewall.... Hope that helps

Good Morning,
I’m somewhat new to the Ford Barn but noticed your older post regarding the 160C model. I have a 1931 Murray bodied 160C slant window, blind back, production number 183. that I aquired a couple years ago out of New Briton Ct. All original no rust running car that I am keeping in the original condition. Just doing new king pins, breaks ,tires etc. fair to good original interior.
I would be very interested on any information you may have learned concerning the production numbers of the 31 Murray bodied models.
Thanking you in advance

So... Murray did indeed produce the 160-C Dlx in 1931 and I do indeed own one. Feel free to double check me on this, many on the Ford Barn here will be glad to supply info, along with several on the Model A Ford Club of America. I apologize if I seem a bit defensive here ( I really don't mean to ) But I'm proud of my rare old car, and I would be truly surprised if the car in my garage were some sort of ghost. :-)
I also have an original 1931 Murray bodied slant window Blindback C-160

I own a 160-C with a re-stamped indented firewall, unrestored. Three of the four fenders still have the original welting intact. There are no holes in the firewall for a data plate. I remember reading somewhere that folks ascribe this feature as a Ford-built body. I do not know if this is fact or fiction.

I purchased a 160c out of Rhode Island last December. It is a flat firewall Murray body #70 with a January engine number. It is a restored car with Marc and mafca credentials.
