Question 31 sidebowl carburetor?

After reading the recent discussion on Berts' rebuilt carbs, I decided that was what I wanted.

I see Berts also offer a "rebuilt late 31 sidebowl carb, #A-9500-EX31", in addition to the regular Zenith.
After reading several old discussions, I'm still confused.

My question is: Should I consider putting this carb on instead of the regular stock Zenith? I've heard about gas sloshing around when coming to a stop and stalling the motor, but don't how often this might happen, etc.

My 31 roadster is all stock, and will only be driven around town.
When did Ford start using these in 31?

Thanks for your help,
Mel

Sidebowl carburetors was started May 1931, when the sutoff valve was moved to the engine side of the cowl.

Gas sloshing and causing stalling only happens when the float is set too high and causes the level of the gas in the bowl of the carburetor to be too high.

If you have an indented firewall get the side bowl if not the regular zenith is what you need. I have purchased one of each in the last two months from Bert's. They are amazing! I never knew my cars could run so good!!!!!! Well worth the $$$$$$$

Here is a picture of the side bowl Zenith on my late 31 tudor. Notice the gas cut off valve in the indented firewall

Thanks for the help everybody. My firewall is not indented, so I'm going to order the regular Zenith.

It is an oil pressure gauge line. I didn't want to run it between the exhaust pipe and engine on its route to the gauge. I figured it would be best to route the oil line around the front of the engine and back to the steering column and up to the gauge.
