Default How long has she been "Your Baby"?

Yesterday while at the store I walked past the magazine rack.
There I saw Hemmings "Classic Car" magazine...(for FEBRUARY 2016!).
On the cover was a small photo of a 31 Roadster...and a lead to a story of owning the car for 65 years! WOW! Had to buy the magazine...and read about
Frank Mulddrry and his love for his roadster.
Reminded me of our being on the Touring Club tour to Yellowstone this year...driving from Reno to Yelllowstone and return...about 2600 miles. And on the tour met Bruce Elder and his lady Jeannie. Bruce has owned his roadster for 58 years...and courted Jeannie in it!

So I wondered...how long have you owned your "A"?
We are the new guys on the block...having just owned the Vicky for 2 1/2 years.
But would be interested in the rest of you.

How long has the "A" been in your life?

1930 Standard Roadster, was my Dad's since 1944. Became mine in High School in 68. I also courted my wife in that car (ask those of us who know about that lift and swing shifter) and used it as my only car through college. Still my pride and joy.

My Grandfather bought my 1928 Ford Touring (Phaeton) on February 28th, 1929. I took possession of it in 1964, "restored" it in 1978, and have been driving it ever since.

Got my 31 Roadster from my dad who got it for his birthday 45 years ago. Gift from my mom! Took my girlfriend for a ride in the car and proposed to her. Coming up on 39 years together.

1930 Coupe I acquired February 22, 1941, registered and driven each and every year except when I was overseas in the service in WWII. My 1929 Phaeton owned since 1954, also continually registered and driven.

Nice to see you are still active and driving your cars Rich. I enjoyed seeing them about 5 years ago when I stopped in to see you.

I just bought my first 1931 Tudor Deluxe September 26, 2015. I am a rookie with lots to learn on my car. So far I have got it started and been able to drive it around the block after sitting for 20 years in my neighbors driveway.

I've owned my Special Coupe for 1 1/2 years. Much more fun than the Packard I sold to get it!

Maternal Grandfather purchased 1928 standard roadster sometime in 1929. Drove it pretty continuously until 1950. In 1957 my sister got wind of the car sitting in a garage in Los Angeles. After badgering my mother for some time the two took the Greyhound from Oakland to LA to retrieve the car. Two of my sisters drove the car in the Oakland CA. Area .
Spent some time in various storage venues. Now in my garage and happens to be the most reliable car I own.

I restored my baby 21 years ago. Since then she has matured into a very fine and distinguished mature lady with 137,000 km under her belt since restoration. She may not be as pretty now as she was 21 years ago but she holds up her head with pride. She has served me well. (does that make her my Mistress?)

I bought my 1929 Town Sedan in 1960--my first car--when I was a senior in high school 55 years ago. Drove it through the rest of high school and my 4 years in college. Went to EMU after passing on full-ride scholarships to U of M and MSU, neither of which allowed freshmen to have cars on campus. Before starting grad school in Ithaca, NY, got a brand new Rambler convertible, and parked the A in Grandma's garage in OH for a long sleep. In 1987, when our son was learning to drive, and it became clear that it was time to finally become a 2-car family, trucked my A back to MI and began the long restoration. Our boy was long gone by the time my Ford was back on the road.

Here we are during the high school and college days, and for extra credit, a few shots of my 2nd car, one of which captures my strongest recollection of my time in upstate NY.

Got my first and only A, a 1930 Deluxe Coupe about 3/4's restored this time last year and basically finished with it and driving it now. No family or other emotional connection to one I know of, simply admired the cars at shows for many years and felt I could work on them having restored and/or maintained some 1940/s to 1950's tractors and cars. Absolutely the most fun tinkering with and fixing up that I've ever had with anything thus far.
