1940 or 41 Ford Truck
Good day,
I am researching a 1940 Ford pickup with V8. The truck's serial number is 186025025. It is titled under the number 6025025. It was auctioned at Barrett Jackson in January of 2010, Lot number 1221. The truck has been titled in Massachusetts and Maine. I am trying to determine who restored the truck. They did a good job. Jeff Murray, Vintage Car Research LLC |

Re: 1940 or 41 Ford Truck
how about some pictures? few differences in trim are what separate's these two years. 41 could have 4cyl-6cyl-V8-85hp, V8-95hp V8 go to vanpelt's website to determine year by serial number.

The serial number falls into the range of the 1941 V-8's.

40 tailgate with V8 emblem, 41 trucks could have 4cyl-6cyl-two V8's-so no V8 stamped on tailgate. 49-53 engine with water outlets on front of heads 41 dash-has 1941 metal hood emblem attached--40 had raised deck with Ford script 41 hood with raised metal emblems--40 hood had Ford script may be more but you get the picture--also no chrome grills in either 40 or 41 |

Re: 1940 or 41 Ford Truck
There are lots of other differences besides those already mentioned. Easy to see is the speedometer background, 40 is just like 40 standard car, 41 commercial has arcs as graphics. Other gages have different faces, also the kidney shaped wiring cover on firewall is in different location between 40 and 41. Hub caps different-40 has V8 ,41 says Ford. Also heaters are different, 2 door versus 3 door. Defrost outlets are different--- the list goes on.

Re: 1940 or 41 Ford Truck
Here are pictures of the 1940 and 1941 Ford Pick-ups from the original sales brochures. You can see the extra trim on the hood of the 1941 model, which the 1940 models lack. A lot of people mix up these two model light Ford Pick-ups, as well as mixing up the larger 1940 and 1941 Ford Trucks that had free standing headlights. |

I don’t believe Maine titles vehicles older than 1996......Mark

This truck is definitely a 1940 model, but has 1941 Ford Hubcaps fitted. |

Re: 1940 or 41 Ford Truck
This one is the true 1941 Ford Pickup,. as posted by 51504bat. Notice that the Lights in the Headlight Rims are raised, while on the 1940 models, they are flat. |

Re: 1940 or 41 Ford Truck
41 truck with 40 parts. go to barret-jackson web site and look at the dash--no raised area for ford script, flat dash with emblem attached, so to change that would be a lot of work

I guess given by all the discrepancies pointed out in the posts above its fair to that who ever "restored" this truck didn't do a good job. That isn't to say that it doesn't look very nice cosmetically but it certainly isn't proper for all the reasons posted.

Re: 1940 or 41 Ford Truck
If a person is looking for a correctly restored '41 pickup this is not the one to own.

Re: 1940 or 41 Ford Truck
"True" 41 Pickup didn't have the Biggy or Tall rear tires. They look like crap, IMHO.

They may have done a good job putting the truck together but as for a restoration? Missed that by a country mile. This truck is quite the hodge-podge of parts. Some 40, some 41 and some passenger car.

Re: 1940 or 41 Ford Truck
I originally posted this photo mainly to show the '41 waterfall as opposed to the '40 nose piece on the OP truck. I just copied the photo off the net. I don't know anything about it regarding originality, correctness, etc.
