John Deere corn head grease

I read about JD corn head grease for trains and rear end when I went to the dealer I found the grease in tubes. So how do you put the grease in the trains and rear end or do I have this totally screwed up.

The corn head grease should be used in the universal joint housing for the u-joint. Not in the rear end, use 600wt. What do trains have to do with Model A's?

Transmission not trains, trans got changed to trains, will have to reread the text closer next time

Cornhead for the steering box. Warm it up before trying to put in.

Grease (of any kind) in the steering box? This doesn't sound right. I use the same lube as in the transmission and differential. And no, the steering box doesn't leak.

PS: I do use JD cornhead grease for the U-joint.

Use JD for both the steering box and the universal.

The warning to "never put grease in the steering gear" per Ford Service Bulletins and other sources is well published.

John Deere Corn Head grease is made differently than regular grease, like axle grease. It clings to the gears instead of running off when the gears stop moving. It is a different type of grease that will work in a steering box. I am pretty sure it will work fine in a steering box.

Has been recommended for a while - it's "sticky" more like the original STP is sticky.

But STP is NOT a lubricant.

Sorry. 1930 was a good year - but some things have improved since then.

Certain greases being one of them.

I have greased corn heads using JD corn-head grease and think one is challenged to correctly call it a grease. I don't think it an emulsion at all (like traditional grease.)

I have JD Corn Head grease in my 1931 68B steering box for two years, it works great. I did try heating it in boiling water to allow easier adding to the steering box. I found that the viscosity did not change much, almost no change. I finally spooned the corn head grease into a restaurant type plastic catchup dispenser and squeezed the dispenser to get it in the steering box. Then I tamped it down with a round dowel, so I could add more. I then checked the grease level frequently until the level remained the same.

I have dedicated grease gun from Harbor Freight loaded with the corn hd tube. Also, a removable pipe plug in the bottom of the steering gear. Pump until it runs out and then check grease fitting at top of casting. Turn steering wheel back and forth to work in grease.The top "zerk" is installed in a brass "adaptor" that fits the stock thread and can be removed by hand to check level. The steering gear takes quite a bit from the tube.

I understand why many of you have changed to JD grease. The stuff works, and works well.

I pump it into the zerk opening until it comes out.
