Who makes an original looking 29 tube radiator
Bergs says no. Brassworks, same. So, who makes a radiator for a 29 Model A that will look "right"?

Re: Who makes an original looking 29 tube radiator
I bought just the core from Berg's several years ago as a spare for my 28-9 radiators, and it looks perfect.
Can you order the core and have it look original, or do you need the complete radiator? |

Re: Who makes an original looking 29 tube radiator
Berg's sent me a nice email last month telling me that I cannot order a round tube radiator because they stopped making them. I didn't even think to ask about buying just a core.
I probably need a whole radiator, Tom. Brassworks didn't get very specific, but apparently not. |

Re: Who makes an original looking 29 tube radiator
The original radiator in my 28 was rotted beyond repair so I bought a Brass Works round tube a couple years ago. It is real close but the fins per inch is off a little and the little hood clips on the tank don't even come close to holding the hood. Had one side slip of and drop right on my fore arm. Got my attention real quick. What is the difference between a 28 and a 29?

Now Brassworks on the other hand still have them on their site as Bob posted; Round tube 28-29

Re: Who makes an original looking 29 tube radiator
Fins on original '28/29 radiators were a double-thickness and folded over. The Brassworks radiators use a single thickness fin.

Do I send my current radiator to you? I presume you will then measure everything before taking it apart to ensure a correct fit when reinstalling it? |

Re: Who makes an original looking 29 tube radiator
Here's what I did for my rad. I went to a commercial heating and boiler company and ask if they had a supplier for round tube heating cores. Which they did. I gave them the size of the core and they had it made up with the header plates. Then took the panels from my rad and put them on the new core. The cost was about 1/3 of a new rad plus it looked right. Mine you, I put in about 12 hours on building the rad and testing it but it works well.

Hi Derek: I'll check my records as it's a few years ago. I'll see what I can get for you.
If I remember it was Oakwood radiator, but I'll check. John |

Re: Who makes an original looking 29 tube radiator
Follow-up.
I didn't want to say anything earlier and possibly jinx this, so I had to wait until it actually happened. Folks, you might possibly be looking at the last round-tube new radiator left. I was looking to get an authentic looking radiator for my unrestored 29 Model A Fordor. Came up empty as you can read above. One option was to have the current radiator recorded with round tubes, but with the wrong looking upper tank, inlet and outlet. Not attractive. On a whim, while on the phone with Brattons to order some stuff, I happened to ask if they had any of part # whateveritwas. The nice lady said maybe not, but she would go look for herself. When she came back to the phone a few minutes later, she confirmed she did have ONE. I asked if I could please own it (didn't even ask how much $$). It arrived on Monday, but due to an injury, I was unable to get it to the shop and unpacked until today. It is absolutely stunning!! This is really going to complete the 29 and help keep it more original looking. And, it I'll be nice to have a radiator that isn't all greasy inside that lets the motor overheat whenever trying to drive uphill on 90+ degree day. Now, I just need these broken bones to heal and the swelling to go down so I can install it. Torture! Anxious. |

Did the 30-31 also have the round tubes?

Paul,
What did you break? We're rooting for you to heal well. Sorry we've not yet come up to visit, everything's gone wrong. Bill W, & Buster T.
