Hello,
My name Is Aad from the netherlands and have a pick up with a mercury flathead with a nummer on the belhouse.
Can anywan tel me the jahr its make.

So far as I know there is no way to know when the engine was actually manufactured except if it is an 8BA type and not all were date coded. This code (if it exists)will be on the rear passenger side of the intake manifold mount surface.

need a little more info, where is the dist, on top? if so 49 and up, or is it between the water pumps? is it a crab dist or a helment type, are the water pump pullys wide or narrow? where are the the very bottom head bolts located, 39 to 48 they are located on the very outside corners on bottom of head, where are the water out lets located? up till 48 they were in the middle of the head, 49 up on the front of the head, measure the stroke, up to 1948 the stroke was 3 3/4", 49 and later 4" stroke, if some of this info is wrong some one in here will be able to correct me, also the bell housing up to 48 had the bell housing cast on the block, 49 and up the bell housing was separate from the block

The EAC head indicates 52'-53' MERC.
If the 8BA 8RT 6520 is the intake manifold then that indicates that may be a Ford truck manifold, not Mercury.
This could be a Ford engine with Mercury heads.

8rt is definitely ford truck, I don't think merc made a truck

No, but some trucks came with Merc engines.

The Mercury M-Series is a pickup truck that was produced between 1946 and 1968 by Mercury,

A Mercury engine in a truck would have been a special order either in the USA or in Canada. Mercury cars and the Ford Monarchs were the only ones that came stock with a 265 (255) crank.
Big trucks like the F7 & F8 had the 337 or 317 Lincoln engines. Most others were 239 stock. Mercury trucks were more a badge change that was superficial in nature rather than a running gear change.

Yes Mercury did make a truck, I know where there is a 47 here for sale. They had a beautiful chrome grille, unlike the Fords. I wish I could post a picture I have of it, but unlike on the HAMB, it is not possible from my phone.
( or at least I haven't figured it out )

For sure Merc trucks were available here in Canada . I have one. A 49 model M68 three quarter ton . Not sure what engine it has though as I have not lifted the hood in a while.

I saw Wayne Carinie (sp?) buy one on "Chaseing Classic Cars" fully restored stock. Gorgeous!! As I recall it was high 30s low 40 grand. Rowen

mercury did not make a pick up, it was made by ford and rebadged mercury, mercury never had a dedicated factory to make p/u's
