Powder for Coating

I am in need of where to buy powder for coating wheels that is the correct color for apple green and Tacoma cream. The company in Washington that used to supply this appears out of business. Also saw some posts on this site confirming that. I know there is a lot of powder coating going on and figured someone could help. Must have the correct colors. Thanks

I guess the keyword is 'correct' color. Does "correct" mean they must be exact? The TigerDrylac colors are close, ...but not accurate enough to be authentic when compared to the Paint & Refinish Guide.

Thanks for the clarification of my note. I do mean the authentic colors. I am planning to repaint my wheels the Authentic colors. I are working on cars that I hope to have judged at some point.

Personally I first had dealings with Tom Green about 10+ years ago, and then for about 2-3 years afterward. On several occasions about 50% were favorable, and the others were anywhere from a minor inconvenience to downright deceit on his part. In his defense, I think where he struggled was with selling enough volume to keep his product fresh and in stock. You see, even when we store our powder in a dehumidifier box, it still ages where it does not flow correctly when applied. Adding to that, when blended colors are necessary, the minimum order is usually 50 pounds, and even at that quantity, the pricing does not get competitive until the quantity increases substantially. Therefore maybe this helps understand where the issue.

Now with that said, what I have learned over the years is whatever you can accomplish with powder applied paint can be accomplished with sprayed 2K urethane with regard to to durability. My personal opinion is use one of the TigerDrylac RAL premixed numbers if a close to authentic color is acceptable, and use a mixed sprayed 2K urethane if the color nerds to match the chip in the Paint & Refinish Manual.

I don't have any experience with powder coating . Eastwood sells powdercoat colors. I'm not sure how authentic the colors are, may be worth a try.

While Purdy has made a valid suggestion, I will save you some time by explaining that Eastwood is a private-labeler of powder meaning they buy an extremely poor quality powder and sell it for higher $$ than what it is worth. In addition, their colors really are not as close as the Tiger colors listed above.

Now, the other thing I intended to address earlier is the last sentence of your post. It has been my personal experiences that every powder painted wheel I entered into a MARC/MAFCA Fine-point competition has received a deduction for being over-restored. This is because the mil thickness of the powdered paint covered the details they were looking for on the wheel. If your plans are for AACA competitions, they will pass successfully. Hope this helps too.

I used Tiger Drylac tacoma cream on my '31 dlx roadster wheels. To my eye it matches the paint and finish guide exactly and received full points in MAFCA national judging.

There was also in the same thread talk of them just being on vacation. So what is it, vacation or out of business? And I did say try did I not? Yea I doubled checked I did say try and did not say use.

FWIW,

I was using the cheaper powders.

I tried the Drylac and would never go back. The Drylac works better even with the crappy wasteful low end powder gun I use.
