Default Mitchell overdrive owners

Just curious, how many Mitchell overdrive owners bought both, the Mitchell overdrive and transmission?

I have a Mitchell on the sedan but original transmission with new gears, no, not synchro.

Just the overdrive for me. Even if I could afford it, I wouldn't want the synchro because I'd miss out on the whole experience of shifting gears 1928-style. It's part of what I love about driving my A.

I have a Tudor with both Mitchells and another pair in boxes waiting to go in another one. Had a delay. I have a few Model A's with the F-150's in them but my man passed away and I did not want to ship the car away or try the installation myself. The Mitchell's cost a little more but I prefer them a little because of the originality and I can install them with a little help.

I would not be without the OD and the synchro trans is great.

+1

All my other cars have synchros and if I want a synchro I'll drive one of them. Driving the A is all about not having synchros. Knowing how to shift good without synchros makes you god-like. IMO.

I have both on my 30 Tudor that I use for touring. I really like this set up.

I also have a 31 Vicky with all original drive train that I can drive when I want the original flavor of a Model A.

Installed a new 3.54 ring & pinion and the Mitchel in my 31 Slant sedan two weeks ago and what a difference! the car is more comfortable when cruising at 55. I am seriously thinking of the Mitchel transmission because I think the 15% higher 1st & 2nd with the 3.54 in low would also enhance the drive-ability. The upside is when I want to drive a completely stock model A I can drive my 31 Roadster.

I thought the 3.78 was adequate with the Mitchell. Would it make a big difference with the 3.54 added?

Forgot to mention that I have a touring engine and not sure if a stock engine would pull well enough with the 3.54

My engine is being rebuilt to a touring engine now, would it be better to change the 3.78 to the 3.54 ?

I can only speak of my personal experience, my touring engine is bored to .60, has the touring cam and 5.6 high compression head with Babbitt, so it is not one of those "Knock it out of the park" engines, when I hit a long up hill incline I do need to drop it back to low but it really works well for me, also my Slant window sedan loaded weights 2,733 lbs (Yes had it weighed loaded)

It depends on the terrain, but I'd like to change to the 3.27 ring and pinion with a counterweighted crankshaft and 5.5 head.

I think you would be very happy with touring engine 5.9 or 6.1 head , 3:27 rear and Mitchell overdrive. Have fun modelAtony tony white Lafayette, LA

Long Island New York, mostly flat. I have a counterweighted crankshaft with the Synders 6-1. I was told not to go with a 3.27.

Sounds like a good enough reason to do it.
