Speedster Project
Well, I got a bit more done this last weekend. Not as much as I had hoped, but still plenty.
Saturday morning I went down and helped cut the nuts off a frog. That's railroad speak I guess for part of the rail switching mechanism. I volunteer down at the Abilene and Smokey Valley Railroad, and we were laying another track and switch to the barn.  Back home I started to put the chassis together.  Sunday morning I rolled it into the shop to clean up the frame rails some:  Then my little helper and I set the motor in:  I still need to move the front crossmember ahead a scosh and get a set of rear u-bolts.  That's all for now. |

Looks good, your making some fast progress...brakes and everything.

i like your speedster im building one also when the weather and health permits. i like how u used parts from old farm machinery waste not want not im useing the grill and hood assembly from a 1948 massey fergusion tractor on mine it has to be shortened and modified a little but a speedster is for fun i love em keep up the good work and keep the help happy i use my grandchildren to help me its good for them to do something besides tv and x boxes or whatever they play inside thanks and all have a merry christmas and a wonderfull new year!!!!!

LOL I'm still drooling over that steam engine. I think you should design a steam engine body to go on your frame! You could have the best of both worlds!

Nice locomotive. My Dad's currently restoring a 1928 Pullman car. Back in the 1930's both of my Grandfathers worked in a N & W owned coal mine. They were good friends and they worked in different sections back in the handloading days. They had to lay their own track to their section. They could only get 6 inch frog bolts to bolt the track together which was hard to do being so short. Eight inch frog bolts were a luxury. My paternal GF sent my maternal GF a bag of 8" bolts that he had hidden in the mine, thoroughly upsetting his own brother in law and cementing a friendship that lasted a lifetime.

Feel the love, 90 people are interested and I am sure would like you to keep posting and show photos of your progress.. The quality time between you and your helper is something to cherish as it can not be bought at any price, from your avatar her face says it all! From your sketch the rear looks like a pickup box? I like the concept of an "open cab" pickup...do you plan any engine mods or just a light weight speedster... Make sure your seat can adjust so a certain helper's legs can reach the pedals!!! Kool start, keep updates coming most people will not respond unless they have something to say , that has never stopped me or a politician! My dad always said " the way to tell if a canidate is lying, is to see if his lips are moving" LOL

Ok. I got it running and driving this weekend:
 It runs great. Starts right up.  I need a leather bomber hat and some goggles. Maybe some brakes too. and a seat. |

Put plywood floors in for safty! Then build a wooden bench with a back rest and drive the heck out of it!!!
