Some Flatheads are more equal than others.
If you think the Flatheads are bad ,you should see the Modified Ts' Run Up The Hill.
Still a LOT of Fun And a Great Time for ALL.

I have not been for a few years,am going this year. You see amazing cars like Stanly Steamer,Auburns ,you name it. People come from all over.

The model T's are the only class allowed to be modified. They have to use T block and transmission. There are some fire breathing speedsters.

Weather was lousy here in Illinois. So I did not take the car.
Weather in Newport was damp and cloudy about 60
Saturday there were about 200 cars that went up the Hill.
I did not see any new cars there Saturday .
The Time Trial ended early about 330 when the rains came.
Sunday there were 250 cars that went up the Hill.Probably about 40 more Model As'.
A T speedster in the modified class set the fastest time , a little over 22 seconds. It not the official fast time as it is a modified car and only a stock car can hold the record.
The Fastest car on the Hill is a 41 Ford Pick-up with a Flathead V-8. Right behind it is a 41 Ford Pick-up with a 6 cylinder . Oddly enough it is a Father and son team that own both trucks. Next year is the 50th anniversary so i have get motivated and be there.
Both trucks run a bit over 22 seconds up the hill. The V-8 is a few tenths faster.

Yeah, we've had no lack of rain. Drowning over here on the Mississippi. Well, thanks for your report. You've definitely piqued my interest in the Hill Climb and made me want to go sometime. I guess my Mercury is too new to compete and my old Dodge is too slow.

Cars are pre-war before 1942 if they are a current make, Ford or Chevrolet for example.
Orphan makes before 1970, Packard, Studebaker,Nash are allowed to run up to 1955.

Check out You-Tube for videos of the Hill Climb. Also the Newport Hill Climb site on the internet or Facebook. There may be videos available.
Hope to see you next year. It is the 50th Anniversary.

Also dont worry about slow. There is a 1910 Brush, single cylinder that runs the hill. The owner was pleased that he broke the 2 minute mark this year.

Perhaps the "50th running of the hillclimb?" My understanding is it basically didn't exist from 1916-1968.
