Default 1936 Phaeton - mystery part ID

I found the attached on the driver’s side floor after installing new temperature gauge; would greatly appreciate guidance as to its correct location. Thank you.

Looks like spider retainer clip that goes on the bottom of the steering gear. B-3544

Couple of pics showing the clip's relativity. Coop

Thank you , but I’m not so sure - this is very small, less than .5” across, and appears to have been chromed or at least polished on its exposed face. Could that still be the spider retaining clip ??

Could it still be the spider retaining clip? I say yes, it still could be...

OK, look down in the bottom, right-hand corner of this picture. The TINY clip can be seen just above the shiny HOUSING. This is of course, actual size! What'cha think now?

You might want to check your headlight switch at the bottom of the column. If the spring and fork that turns the switch falls out when you drop down the switch unit, you will know for sure where it belongs.

Hi Everyone, Isn't there a similar clip used on the wiper blade? That one would be brighter finished and a touch smaller than the one for the light switch.

Jeff,

Good thought, but that part has tabs on the outside edges that fit into holes in the sides of the stamped spring cover. As well, it appears to be too thick for that purpose or for the retainer on the end of the light switch/horn rod.

Question Re: 1936 Phaeton - mystery part ID

I think this is an interior part and not part of the light switch assembly at the base of the steering column; it just seems unlikely that this could have found its way inside

Definitely not the clip on the horn/sight switch rod, but also not one I have encountered in any of the five '35-'36 phaetons I've had over the years, broken or otherwise.

look at the door stops arms. The cup seems to be slightly deformed and broken and may have fallen off of the arms that stop the doors from opening too much.

On close inspection of Pete's enlarged photo it appears that a piece may have broken off the bottom of that part?

Terry,

Both the front and rear doors of '35-'36 have rubber straps for door checks like your avatar coupe and no part of their retention or guides are like this mystery item.

That's the same set up as is in/on the 35-36 PU door check set up.

Don,

My turn. None of the parts in your photo are used in the door checks for '35-'36 phaetons or roadsters which were carryover parts from '33-'34 once the switch was made from all steel doors to wood framed doors for those body types in North American production. The straps themselves were T-shaped fabric-reinforced rubber.

These are a better depiction...I agree with DavidG - "Definitely not the clip on the horn/sight switch rod."
