The axles should be the same 1949 and up

Get rid of the entire assembly. A late '70s Grenada 8" is practically a bolt in.
I broke both axels in mine before I found out the forgings weren't the best

The old Ford rear axle with removable third member is getting rarer as time goes by. They made them from 1949 through 1956 but they were replaced by the 9-inch in 1957. I would look for anything in the flathead era from 1949 thru 53 to be safe on axle shaft fit. 54 & 55 would likely fit too but I don't know about 1956 for certain. Exceptions are station wagon types and police cars since they used the Dana axles. My Hollander manual is buried somewhere of I could say for sure.
