Repair chip in my fender
I live in Birmingham Alabama. My 1935 Ford has a chip in the drivers side fender,. Does anyone know of someone that can fix my chip around Birmingham?

Re: Repair chip in my fender
Sometimes those guys that do the paintless dent repair can fix chips. Depends on the size of the chip.

Re: Repair chip in my fender
If you have the patience and correct color paint you can repair it yourself.
Use a brush to apply paint to fill the chip. Do a new layer each day until the paint is just a hair level with the surrounding paint. Then use 600, 800, 1000 and 2000 grit and a tiny rubber sanding block to sand the applied paint even with the surrounding paint. Then polish. |

Re: Repair chip in my fender
Do you know what type paint the car is painted with such as Laquer, enamel, urethane, base coat clear? Is it a solid color or metallic?

Re: Repair chip in my fender
if you sand a hidden spot with wet 2000 grit and it come off clear it's BC/CC. shine a strong light into the paint and should tell you if it's metallic or solid

Re: Repair chip in my fender
That's not a chip, it sounds like paint failure.

Re: Repair chip in my fender
Using the original paint data won’t ensure a match.
IMO questions to ask when you find someone: Do they use a color spectrometer to color match? Can they adjust for a perfect match? What type of paint will they use? How big of an area will the need to shoot to blend it in? Once done you are stuck with it........... I got lucky, the black lacquer used on my 35 back in the 80s was a perfect match with..........Pactra model enamel paint

Re: Repair chip in my fender
Ouch, a half dollar is pretty big. Looks like you will have to fill the chip and then repaint blending in the paint over a larger area. Do you have an air brush? can you post a photo of the "half dollar chip"?

Re: Repair chip in my fender
Suggest you locate a custom automotive paint store about matching. They might even deal with pros that are able to do it.In the end you might have to paint the whole fender.
