Default Parking Brake Quadrant

I may need to replace this as the lever doesn’t hold in any position. I guess that’s why the car came with the accessory bungee cord…..? Has anyone replaced one of these? Do you grind off or drill out the rivets and replace with bolts/nuts? What other parts should I order? I’m new to the Model T and this is my first one.

If you want to do it right, grind off the rivet heads and knock them out with a drift pin. I didn't do it right, I just used grade 5 bolts. While you are at it, buy a Hand brake lever pawl and replace that too.

Bolts won’t hold as well? Not sure how to replace rivets?

Here is what it looks like. It appears to be bolted on. Replaced earlier? Doesn't look like a hard project. Might be easier working on my 'T' than my 'A'.QUADRANT.0.jpg

Rivets are generally removed with either a drill or a grinder to get the shank to a point they can be driven out with a punch. I have a rivet squeezer and the normal pneumatic rivet hammer & sets to install them. A rivet stays more solid than a bolt because it is expanded into the hole during installation. This makes for a nice tight trouble free fit. Bolts are generally a bit loose in the hole and have to be retorqued if they come loose.

I have repaired these by taking a triangular file such as a saw file and filing the teeth a little deeper. you can also refile the pawl. Or, some guys cut a piece of wood and fit it in the slot where the lever goes forward.
