Default Carburetor Problem Question

Within the last three or four days I read a post about problems concerning the carburetor which interested me. In the post the individual stated something to the effect that "turn the GAV in until the motor quits". What I would like to know is there anything that this proves if the motor does not quit other then the GAV is too worn or the matting surface is too worn?

By the way I have tried to find this in the search with no results!

A Tip - sometimes doing a google searches works better than using the search function here on the Barn. Sorry, can not answer your questions.

The motor should not quit with the gav turned all the way in. It will just run a little leaner.

Isn't there two types of carbs. One just having the casting that the GAV screws into and the other having a fitting down inside that the GAV matches with. It would seem like the one without the fitting may sometimes let gas through. Just something I found working with a couple of carbs so don't know if it means anything.

With the Zenith, some say their engine will stall if the GAV is closed, some won't. Most will agree it doesn't make a big difference either way. I will say if you can kill the engine with the GAV you will be able to fine tune the mixture much more easily.

There are other factors than just the GAV needle and seat wear that will affect whether or not the engine stalls. If the main jet is too big, the GAV and Cap Jet may not do anything and the engine will run rich even with the GAV closed entirely. Same case with the Compensator Jet. That's why flow tested jets are a good idea.
